Basketball 4Life (B4L) Anti-Violence Sports Program
The Basketball 4Life Program (B4L) came into existence as a specific response to the increased violence which has plagued Toronto for a number of years. There has been an undeniable growing affinity towards violence/gangs amongst at-risk teenage males.
The vision of B4L is to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all to come and play basketball in an atmosphere of fun, respect and mentorship. B4L allows youth to form positive friendships and relationships both with authority figures and each other.
Education and practical life skills training are essential components of every B4L initiative. We are committed to make a tangible impact in the communities of Toronto; specifically targeting the growing problem of youth and gang violence.

In an ongoing effort to support and strengthen local women, 4LF is launching educational and practical programs for women ages 18 and older. Commencing fall 2009, these interactive Passion 4Life programs will focus on affecting positive change and producing life skills. Classes will have a maximum of 25 participants so each woman receives personal attention and training. Graduates of each program will be equipped with relevant and practical skills that are so often assumed or taken for granted.
4LF runs free basic and intermediate computer training sessions every Wednesday evening (7-9pm) and Saturday afternoons (1-3pm). These 8-week trainings are attended by variety of students including seniors, new immigrants and any individual with a desire to acquire computer skills. Classes cover training in Microsoft Word, Excel, the Internet and much more.
4LF runs free English as a Second Language classes (ESL) every Thursday (6-8pm). A simple yet effective curriculum is used and people of all ages enjoy these educational evenings. New immigrants are provided with a place to come and not only learn English but also various Canadian cultural traditions. Lasting friendships are established and strengthened between students, teachers and families in the community.
4LF is dedicated to assisting low income and new immigrant individuals find their place within the community. 4LF has partnered with ACCES Employment Services (http://www.accestrain.com) to assist with job-finding skills and opportunities. A variety of subjects are covered during each session including resume writing, job interview techniques and much more.

4LF partners with the Salvation Army (www.salvationarmy.org) every Friday (6-8pm) in providing food and clothing for the homeless. This meaningful – although often heartbreaking – outreach provides an opportunity to connect with some of our community’s most needy but valuable citizens.
