The 4LF proudly hosted an evening event dedicated to the amazing staff and volunteers of the Toronto Sick Kids Foundation. These medical heroes display incredible courage and enduring faithfulness amidst heartbreaking stories. The fundraiser consisted of special musical and dramatic presentations, savoury foods, incredible testimonials and best of all, a live guest appearance for all kids by Dora and Diego!
Great leaders invest in themselves. It is with this in mind that the 4LF has hosted an annual Leadership Day for the past three years. The event has featured many top achievers from various fields and accomplished backgrounds. During the 2009 Leadership Day, the 4LF was proud to sponsor thirty-five students from four different high schools in the Toronto District School Board as well as the Toronto Catholic District School Board. Students had a chance to learn valuable leadership lessons alongside 100+ business men and women from all walks of life.
The 4LF partners with numerous organizations to host The Great Debate. This event celebrates Black History Month by reenacting the historic event (by the same name) which transpired in the 1930’s. It was then that a black college (Wiley College, Texas) in a debating competition beat the University of Southern California. Wiley College should have become recognized national champions, but blacks were not permitted into the debate society until after World War II.
At the 2009 Great Debate, 60+ African-Canadian high school students came together in an atmosphere of education and respect.
This event was dedicated to raising both awareness and financial support for the people of the Southern Sudan. The 4LF has partnered with U.S. based organization, The John Dau Sudan Foundation, which builds and supports health care clinics in Southern Sudan. The fundraiser included many distinguished guests such as the Toronto Mass Choir and keynote speaker John Dau (one of the lost boys of the Sudan).
International Women's Day Event
The purpose of this annual event which is celebrated internationally on March 8th, is to inspire women of all ages and walks of life, helping them to recognize the true value of womanhood. Hundreds of women and girls from the community left the 2009 Dove-sponsored function inspired and challenged to make a difference in their homes and their areas of influence, but most of all, to lead purpose-filled lives.
